Future Professionals Participate In TLC’s Say Yes To The Prom

Say Yes to the Prom

Future Professionals and staff from THE TEMPLE: A Paul Mitchell Partner School recently donated their time and talents as part of Discovery Communications & TLC’s Say Yes To The Prom program, a nation-wide effort to make prom dreams come true for nearly 800 underserved and academically high-achieving students across the country.

“From the beginning, we knew that Say Yes To The Prom was special and that we wanted to be a part of this opportunity. Giving back is the foundation of what we do at THE TEMPLE: A Paul Mitchell Partner School. The effects of this effort go beyond simply one night in these teenager’s lives – it creates lasting change,” said Sharon Riser, co-owner of THE TEMPLE.

Local teens selected from area high schools were invited to the Discovery Channel’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland for a day of shopping and pampering to get them ready for a prom night they will never forget. Each participant was paired with a Discovery employee who served as a prom-consultant, personal shopper and style assistant throughout the day, and who ultimately will become a mentor beyond the event.

“It was very heartwarming to be a part of this experience. I personally know what it is like to be underprivileged and how tremendous an experience like this could be on someone’s life,” said Future Professional Serena Russell.

“It was fun to get to do quick little makeovers on the girls, make them feel special and give them a small taste of the prom experience.”

One of the highlight’s of the event was the opportunity to work with Monte Durham of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress. He was also on hand throughout the day to ensure his personal touch was given to every ensemble before each girl said “yes to the prom dress.”

“It was such an amazing experience getting to work with all of the young students and the staff. I feel so honored to have been a part of such a huge once in a lifetime

opportunity to help these students have the prom they deserve! I’m so thankful for all the opportunities I’ve received from the Temple so far and can’t imagine following my dream anywhere else!” remarked Future Professional Lauren Kline.
