Giving back to the community through philanthropy and volunteerism has always been a big part of who we are at THE TEMPLE academies. Unfortunately, COVID put our mission of making the world a better place to a screeching halt.
As the world slowly begins to open back up, we’re thrilled to finally get back into the community. CO Owner & CEO Sharon Riser says, “We are excited to get back to donating the time & talent of our Future Professionals to make a difference in the lives of the people that the Lighthouse serves.”
“The LightHouse is a place of belonging and hope for our most vulnerable neighbors.”
The LightHouse, just one of the many organizations that we support here at THE TEMPLE Academies, is a homeless prevention support center located in Annapolis Maryland with the ultimate goal of providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and to empower people as they transition towards employment, housing and self sufficiency (annapolislighthouse.org)
This month, school Director Jen Kusel and Barber Leader La Ron Miller accompanied our Night School Future Professionals to The LightHouse where they gave free haircuts to those utilizing The LightHouse services.
Night School Barber Future Professional Katie Lutz had this to say about the experience:
“Attending the Light House for our Haircuts for the Homeless event was a lot different than I expected”. In her own words, she explained the LightHouse Organization as “a stepping stone to self improvement”. “People really opened up to us and shared their personal stories; we got to meet so many people from different walks of life. Listening to their stories of struggle and seeing them actively working to turn their life around was incredibly inspirational and philosophical. I cannot wait to go back!”
