Every so often an opportunity comes along to be a part of something incredibly special that changes you in a very definable way. Five Future Professionals from THE TEMPLE: A Paul Mitchell Partner School in Frederick, Maryland had the honor of being a part of such an event on August 5, 2016 at Camp Sunrise near Crownsville, MD.
Camp Sunrise is a one-week day and overnight summer camp for children between the ages of 6-16 that have been diagnosed or are survivors of cancer. Camp Sunrise houses over 100 campers and is sponsored by John Hopkins Sydney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Division of Pediatric Oncology. The camp provides the opportunity for these children to experience new activities and to bond with others their age who understand what it means to live with cancer.
Future Professionals were excited to provide hair, makeup, and nail services to the campers as part of their end of camp dance experience. While creating various looks that ranged from fairy princesses to the avant garde, our Future Professionals were touched by the camper’s courage, heart, and exuberance.
Future Professional, Jojo Macguire said, “They were so full of positivity and energy, it was humbling and inspiring.”
Their smiles were the perfect payment for Future Professional Taylor Haas. “These kids are going through so much and to
be the one that can make them smile and laugh, getting their mind off of everything was absolutely amazing!”
Whether this was their first year at camp or their seventh, these children without a doubt made a huge impact in the lives of our future professionals. Their resilience and love of life set an example that they all hope to follow. Evelyn Bourlier, leader of our Be Nice or Else team, couldn’t have been more proud of the students she took, “I adore these Future Professionals and all they represent from THE TEMPLE. They make me proud and I look forward to continuing to help build socially responsible professionals.”
