At the Temple, our placement rate is over 90%, and we are proud of how our graduates are affecting change in the cosmetology field. Here are a few remarkable stories of astonishing success by these former Future Professionals.
MEET CARLIE GEISER!
Carlie’s passion for art led her to THE TEMPLE. From day one, she said yes to every opportunity given to her; she excelled by joining the “Be Nice Club,” attending Caper, helping at onsite weddings, traveling to hair shows and becoming a Phase 2 Future Professional. After graduating, Carlie worked in a few clinic classrooms and completed the first “Makeup At THE TEMPLE” course. She also traveled three to five times a year to a variety of shows and classes.
Recently, Carlie was accepted to become a Scruples National Educator, traveling the country demonstrating hair cutting and hair coloring techniques, all while finishing her business degree!
Since graduating, Carlie says “I have realized how the Paul Mitchell schools truly stand apart from all others. Our culture is something that outsiders don’t usually understand. The Learning Leaders genuinely care and want to see each future professional flourish. I was given the tools to go above and beyond in my career. The opportunities were amazing, and the structure was phenomenal! I am very honored to be a Paul Mitchell graduate!”
MEET BRANDON THOMAS HOOVER A.K.A. GAUGE!
After graduating from THE TEMPLE, Gauge started his career at Zoe clinic classroom and Spa in Fairfax, Virginia. After only three years behind the chair, he was voted “Best Stylist” in Washington Blades, ‘Best of Gay DC.’ He currently works in one of NYC’s most successful clinic classrooms ‘Dramatics NYC’ as an Artistic Stylist. “It’s a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together. This business can take you anywhere. Dream Big!” exclaims Gauge.
Gauge was a hairstylist for the production of “Mission for Love” at Irving Plaza in Union Square, conducted monthly editorial photo shoots with his clinic classroom/local photographers and was one of nine stylists competing for “Star Stylist” for a live hair competition.
His mentors are Nora Battey of Zoe clinic classroom and Spa. “Not only is she an incredible hairdresser, but everything she does comes from a place of passion and love. She is a true creative spirit who enhances every stylist she meets. I can only hope to inspire future hairdressers as much as she inspired me,” shares Gauge.
Tip for Future Professionals: “Don’t settle, if you see bigger things for yourself, go get it! Nothing is standing between you and your dreams! Be open to learning new things, everyone you meet has something to teach you! Take everything the culture of Paul Mitchell has to offer, and use it! It works!! Paws up,” says Gauge!

MEET MOLLY MUMMERT!
Molly graduated from THE TEMPLE in 2010. Her journey continued in Baltimore, advancing and diversifying herself with real world experience and education. Becoming a prominent member of the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Fashion Alliance (BFA) has led to wonderful collaborations in the industry. In 2013, she co-founded Charm City Top Knots (CCTK), an on-location styling service specializing in hair and make-up for weddings, photography and fashion shows. CCTK is proud to be the exclusive style team for MD Fashion Awards for 2014 and 2015, and even earned themselves a nomination for “Emerging Hairstylists” of the year 2014.
Paul Mitchell culture is her home, and she carries that with her daily. Molly loves not only sharing that experience with her guests in the chair; she is honored to be joining the National Education team with JPMS. As John Paul always says, “Success unshared is failure.”
Tip for Future Professionals: “Get involved! Join Design Team, Student Council, go to Caper! Say ‘yes’ to everything! Make the most out of your journey in school. Once a graduate, it’s ShowTime,” exclaims Molly!
MEET ALICE NESS!
Many of you already know our very own Alice Ness, Student Run Programs Leader and Makeup Specialist at here at THE TEMPLE. Before even attending THE TEMPLE, Alice knew she wanted to be involved within the fashion industry. Attending THE TEMPLE gave her the opportunity to follow that dream.
After receiving her license three years ago, she has been able to work in many aspects of the fashion industry: Lingerie Fashion Week in NYC where she led the hair and makeup team for five seasons; three photo shoots for Modern clinic classroom magazine (having one of the images from a shoot published internationally in Spain’s Pelequarias) and, most recently, being featured in the Paul Mitchell Schools’ newest Skill Cards!
Alice fell in love with the Paul Mitchell culture and family and currently works as an educator at THE TEMPLE, sharing what she has learned. She also works as a freelance hair and makeup artist for commercial and editorial, portrait and fashion clients. She does hair and makeup for weddings, theatrical performances, video productions, photo editorials and runway shows. Her client list includes Top Chef’s Brian Voltaggio, AGV Helmets, Lauren Rich PR, The Lingerie Alliance NYC, Modern clinic classroom Magazine, Pelequaris Magazine and Ultimate Face Cosmetics.
MEET DANA RATLIFF HOWSON
The moment Dana walked into THE TEMPLE, she knew she was home! Dana loved how guest speakers spoke on the many aspects and careers there are within the beauty industry. Being on every team THE TEMPLE offered allowed her to travel and participate in many different aspects of the industry while giving back at the same time. Dana raised money so she could go to the Caper event in Vegas, which she felt was incredible!
Dana has now been in the beauty industry for 20 years. She received her make-up license in 1995 while she was counter manager for Elizabeth Arden and Dermablend, and her full Cosmetology license in 2007. Dana has always gravitated towards up-styles and color. She went from being behind the counter to hair and make-up for head shots/calling cards. Currently, she is a Regional Color Coordinator for JPMS, hair stylist for Shear Dimensions clinic classroom and Spa, and an up style specialist for Up Do’s for I Do’s.
Tips for Future Professionals: “While you are in school, take the time to really learn your craft and build your foundation.
You have invested a lot of money, and you will need a strong, sturdy foundation to build upon as you grow in this beautiful industry,” shares Dana.
