Future Professionals and staff from THE TEMPLE: A Paul Mitchell Partner School recently donated their time and talents as part of Discovery Communications & TLC’s Say Yes To The Prom program, a nation-wide effort to make prom dreams come true for nearly 800 underserved and academically high-achieving students across the country.
“From the beginning, we knew that Say Yes To The Prom was special and that we wanted to be a part of this opportunity. Giving back is the foundation of what we do at THE TEMPLE: A Paul Mitchell Partner School. The effects of this effort go beyond simply one night in these teenager’s lives – it creates lasting change,” said Sharon Riser, co-owner of THE TEMPLE.
Local teens selected from area high schools were invited to the Discovery Channel’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland for a day of shopping and pampering to get them ready for a prom night they will never forget. Each participant was paired with a Discovery employee who served as a prom-consultant, personal shopper and style assistant throughout the day, and who ultimately will become a mentor beyond the event.
“My overall experience at The Say Yes To The Prom Dress event was extraordinary. I am a huge fan of the
wedding series and Monte Durham, so to have been able to be selected to participate in such a special day was great,” said Special Wade, admissions team member. “Just to see the looks on the students faces as they walked through the doors of Discovery Channel was priceless! I was able to style the hair for a couple of very deserving young ladies and I aided in helping them select hair pieces that went along with their overall special look. Our team worked really well together with providing hair, make up and men’s services for all the students and worked diligently with keeping everyone on schedule.”
One of the highlight’s of the event was the opportunity to work with Monte Durham of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress. He was also on hand throughout the day to ensure his personal touch was given to every ensemble before each girl said “yes to the prom dress.”
“A truly amazing experience!” said Lisa Mooney, Future Professional. “This event provided top of the line prom
dresses, tuxedos and accessories for deserving high school youth. One participant told our team that she would have never been able to purchase any of these things without Say Yes To The Prom event. I felt truly blessed to be a part of the Paul Mitchell Temple team!”
Say Yes To The Prom made stops in Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Chicago, and Silver Spring, Maryland.
