Answering these three questions will put you on the path to repay your student loan balance. More information can be found at studentloans.gov.
1) Who is my loan servicer?
A loan servicer is a company that collects payments, responds to customer service inquiries, and performs other administrative tasks associated with maintaining a federal student loan on behalf of a lender. If you’re unsure of who your federal student loan servicer is, you can look it up in My Federal Student Aid. Temple graduates can also contact the Financial Aid office at The Temple.
2) What is my repayment plan?
There are several repayment plans available, providing the flexibility you need. Here are some things you should know:
- You’ll be asked to choose a plan. If you don’t choose one, you will be placed on the Standard Repayment Plan, which will have your loans paid off in 10 years.
- You can switch to a different plan at any time to suit your needs and goals.
- Your monthly payment can be based on how much you make. Learn about our income-driven repayment plans.
3) What if I can’t make my payments?
Paying off a student loan is a great way to establish or improve your credit rating. If you’re having trouble making payments, don’t ignore your loans! There are several options that can help keep your loans in good standing, even if your finances are tight.
- Change your Payment Due Date
- Change your Repayment Plan
- Consolidate your Loans
If the options above don’t work for you and you simply can’t make any payments right now, you might be eligible to postpone your payments through a deferment or forbearance. However, depending on the type of loan you have, interest may still accrue (accumulate) on your loan during the time you’re not making payments.

So you’ve taken the plunge and decided to join The Temple: A Paul Mitchell Partner School for your cosmetology education. Congratulations!
Get ready for a real-deal introduction into your journey, your investment, and your experience as soon as you walk through the doors on your first day. This. Is. Not. High School. Here are our best tips for success:
Be on time
Arrive early (yes, early) and be prepared to learn and jump in. After all, this is a time-driven industry (i.e. your time/guest’s time = your earning potential/their happiness) and the clock is ticking once you arrive at school. Roll call begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. depending on whether you’re enrolled in our day or night school program.
Just like a job, you’re expected to be present. If you are unable for whatever reason, (sick, car trouble, etc.) call in and leave a message. No call, no show means you lose your time and your attendance percentage suffers.
Be in communication
We will communicate with you a lot, especially if you are receiving Federal Financial Aid (student loans, grants, etc.). We are required by law to notify you once your FAFSA results are in or your loans are dispersed. Check your email. Return our phone calls.
Speaking of FAFSA and the Student Loan process, know your FSA ID (username & password) because you will need to know this throughout your time with us and beyond. It’s not your parent’s responsibility. The student loans (if you have them) are in your name, not theirs. In fact, once you turn 18, we are not able to share information about you or your loans with your parents without special FERPA permission.*
Find a mentor! One of our fabulous Learning Leaders or experienced Future Professionals are always eager and willing to help. Our culture rewards visionaries… be one!
Take advantage of extra-curricular activities! We have many that will set you apart and put you in a position to be lucky. Student run programs, community events and invitations to be a part of something bigger than yourself are always available.
Look and act the part. Your appearance and demeanor are directly related to your success! Act as if you’re already in the industry and be that person you would want to do your hair, make up or nails.

What’s your best advice for a Paul Mitchell Schools graduate?
Say yes to every opportunity. You will be surprised how fast you will grow in this industry just by saying yes. Show up and work really hard, remember to love yourself and remain adaptable while you are on the journey. – Brittany Troche

Inspiration, Passion, Excellence. Three words that perfectly sum up the Beacon experience for our 2016 Future Professional Beacon winners.
Beacon is a contest hosted by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) for cosmetology students. This once in a lifetime event, is one that only the nation’s most promising students earn the right to attend.
Our Temple Frederick and Temple Annapolis A Paul Mitchell Partner School campuses were proud to have 10 Future Professionals chosen to be a part of this amazing opportunity in 2016.
“As a school, The Temple is proud to be cable to create an opportunity to encourage our students to be a part of Beacon each and every year. It is a wonderful chance for them to see a creative and inspiring part of our industry!” said Trish Kaiser, Executive Education Leader
Each student who enters the contest must submit three photographs of their original work, a letter of recommendation, a resume and one to three marketing pieces that represent their vision. The PBA chooses 100 winners and 200 honorable mentions from all of the applicants across the country. In the state of Maryland this year, only Temple Future Professionals were chosen for this honor!
Attending Beacon, which is held each July as part of Professional Beauty Week, can change the path of a Future Professional’s career. The insight, connections, and inspiration that are part of this event can create a special kind of magic that propels a career to the next level.
Winners and honorable mentions get the opportunity to attend intensive seminars that focus on helping them launch a successful career in the beauty industry. During the three days of learning, students are given the opportunity to hear advice and strategies for success from some of the best in the business.
“I loved the panel of Instagram artists who have found success! Their tips and ideas were for launching a personal brand were so great to hear!” said Breanna Grey, Future Professional and Beacon attendee from the Frederick campus.
As a part of the experience, students also had the opportunity to attend the North American Hair Awards. This star-studded show was a showcase of the most influential and talented stylists in the industry. Paul Mitchell’s own Lucie Doughty took home the coveted Editorial Stylist of the Year award.
“We are truly blown away by the caliber of work we see from our Future Professionals each year. We are so proud to be able to offer them the opportunity and guidance through the process and watch their careers blossom,” said Sharon Riser, school co-owner.

Don’t know where to start? Here are the steps you need to take to begin your journey…
1. Request More Information
Your first step is to request more information and do your research! Fill out our online form and our admissions team will reach out to you right away. Be sure to give us your mailing address so we can send the entire packet of information through the mail.
Our website contains lots of information on our curriculum, guest artists, and learning opportunities so be sure to take a good look around. Also, you can find tons more information on our social spaces as well. (We’re even on Snapchat!) Follow our hashtag #templefrederick to see some of our Future Professionals’ work.
Don’t forget to research other cosmetology schools in your area as well. It’s important to find the school that is best for you and your future.
2. Tour The School
One of the most important steps in your research is your campus visit. We recommend that you visit our school early on in your decision making process to get the big picture of the cosmetology industry, understand the curriculum and give yourself enough time to complete the enrollment process.
Our tours are a very informative and personalized experience. Please allow at least 90 minutes to ensure all of your questions are addressed.
During your visit to The Temple you and your support team will have an opportunity to:
- Visit the classrooms and clinic floor
- Meet our incredible Learning Leaders
- Speak with current “Future Professionals” enrolled in the program
- Learn about our culture, regional and national guest artists, student run programs and your learning materials
- Speak with a Financial Aid Leader about your funding options
3. Choose Your Start Date & Schedule Your Signing
Excited about starting your education with us? Carefully consider what start date is right for you and your situation. Planning a vacation? Best to start after you return. Need to work during the day? Night school classes are the perfect solution!
Once you decide on your start date, you need to schedule your signing appointment with our enrollment team. During that appointment, you will sign your enrollment agreement, receive your student handbook and go over a number of important items you’ll need to know before your first day of school.
The following are the requirements for your enrollment meeting:
- Complete “What Inspires You” essay
- $150.00 Registration Fee (payable by cash or check)
- Driver’s License (or other form of valid government – issued photo ID)
- High School Diploma, transcripts or GED certificate
4. Figure Out The Financials
Thinking about financing your education? We know it can be a confusing process but our financial aid team is here to support you in this process! There are a number of different types of financial assistance you can use here at The Temple. They include (but are not limited to): Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, VA benefits and scholarships. Our financial aid team will meet with you one-on-one to create an individualized financial aid package to fit your lifestyle and needs.
5. Prepare For A Fabulous First Day
Your first day of school as a Future Professional at The Temple: A Paul Mitchell Partner School will be an exciting one! (Pancake party, anyone?)
Here are a few need-to- know details for your first big day of school:
- Arrive in dress code: Black and white with a splash of color (primary clothing must be black and white). Please DO NOT wear jeans, shorts, or flip-flops. Keep in mind that you are joining the Beauty Industry – be professional in your dress!
- School starts promptly so please be sure to arrive 10-15 minutes early to set yourself up for success on your first day.
- Come hungry and ready for fun! We start the day with a pancake party and lots of get-to- know-you games and activities.
